CROWDFUNDING
Crowdfunding is a lot harder than a most people think. It's not about getting money from your friends and family; you can throw a nice dinner for that.  This is about finding and connecting with NEW friends who share a common interest with our project and convincing them to give you money. If you don't already have an abundant social media following, this can be a daunting task that requires months, even years, of work.
With the Varsity Punks Kickstarter campaign, we had to first build our niche following by providing  a variety of entertaining content across different platforms, then strategized a month long campaign to raise $14k for post-production funds.
ROAD SHOW
Whether you're a band, a singer, an indie film, a speaker, or any other kind of performance artist, planning and marketing a road show can be extremely beneficial for exposure.
It's key to use analytics to identify the demographics of your niche audience, to then book the locations, and drive attendance to your events. Maintaining a frequent interaction with your audience is essential to hype up your shows and successfully sell those tickets and fill those seats. 
For the pre-release of Varsity Punks, I coordinated a road show to screen our film at venues across the country -- from small art house theaters, to historical movie palaces, to outdoor screenings. It planted seeds of new fans in cities far from our general reach, but possible through social media.
