"In the end, Varsity Punks’s heart is what sells the experience. It feels like a first time production in the best of possible ways. It demonstrates writer/director Anthony Solorzano’s talent, places some new faces in front of an audience, and does something new with a well-worn genre. As much as the audience likes to root for an underdog and as frequently as they enjoy a coming-of-age story, the fact that Varsity Punks focuses on both of these tropes should make the film a real crowdpleaser."
"I just randomly stumbled upon this indie movie screening in Seattle while looking for something to eat. The director was standing outside the theater trying to get people to come watch the movie... I'm a sucker for coming of age sports/underdog comedies. This one had a lot of heart in it."
DIY Theatrical Tour (Summer '17)
In keeping with the independent spirit we had a run at self-distribution. It was a bold move to give our indie film a chance of standing out from the sea of streaming movies, but we went for it!
Inspired by punk bands who hit the road touring at different venues, we too hit the road to screen our movie at art house theaters across the country.
It was a punk rock experience! Check out this documentary of our journey!
